Policing relies heavily on tradition and recycles familiar concepts like community policing, enforcement-only strategies, and increasing police presence. Many police executives want officers to prioritize problem-solving, critical thought, and community connection, but the culture of policing does not value these skills. Strategies based on prevention and relationship-building are often dismissed as "soft," and are not considered core competencies.
We advocate for the evolution of policing to include cross-discipline competencies from fields including public health, social work, and counseling psychology.
We believe that the co-production of safety must include collaboration among community stakeholders, municipal agencies, and the police.
The Justice Minded Alliance is politically agnostic. We believe everyone deserves better policing.
